D8 MG IMOIII/EU Stage V Marine

Volvo Penta D8 MG is a constant speed, in-line 6-cylinder, 7.7-liter diesel engine using common-rail fuel injection, double overhead camshafts, a twin-entry turbo. This contributes to excellent operating economy and world-class diesel performance, combined with low emissions and noise. It's designed to cope with high back pressure and high-sulfur fuel (1,000 ppm). The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust after treatment system is tailored for a perfect fit. The SCR unit, also a silencer, reduces noise by 35-40 dBA. Volvo Penta has been able to fulfil IMOIII and Inland Waterway Stage V exhaust emission targets while maintaining the same low fuel consumption. And thanks to SCR, the engine power output remains unaffected.

- Solid and robust engine design
- Electronically controlled common-rail fuel system
- Excellent monitoring with Volvo Penta Marine Commercial Control System (MCC)
- Twin-entry turbo with pulse charging
- EMS electronic control system for optimized fuel efficiency

Key features and benefits for D8 MG

The complete solution

The Volvo Penta Genset system is the complete solution for a ship’s onboard power requirements. It comes complete with engine, generator and monitoring system, all tested and ready for installation onboard. Engine and generators are type approved by major classification societies. The genset can be delivered with complete classification certificates.

Reliable and powerful

The engine’s robust design with a ladder frame bolted to the engine block makes it highly reliable. Its rigid in-line cylinder block with generously dimensioned crankshaft bearings, water-cooled exhaust manifold, and turbo provide a powerful engine.

Easy installation - service friendly

Designed to withstand high exhaust back pressure, this genset is easy to install and perfect for installations that require additional, third-part emission control equipment. Easily accessible service points.

High fuel efficiency and low on emissions and noise

The common-rail fuel system makes the engine highly fuel efficient. The control unit monitors several parameters which reduces the overall fuel consumption and reduced exhaust emissions. The common-rail technology means minimal vibrations and low noise levels.

Superior load-taking capability

Together, the twin-entry turbo with pulse charging, and the highly efficient speed control system give this engine superior load-taking capability.

Marine Commercial Control System

Volvo Penta Marine Commercial Control System is an engine control and monitoring system that is easily integrated into the ship’s control system. All actions are displayed with text messages and logged in a non-erasable memory.
