Thwaites Marine Proudly Supports Women Who Sail Australia (WWSA): 2025 Annual Gathering on the Bay in Nelson Bay

09 May 25

Women Who Sail Australia (WWSA) has held the annual Gathering on the Bay, which took place from March 28–30 at the picturesque Nelson Bay Golf Club in Port Stephens, NSW.

Despite unpredictable weather conditions, the spirit of this incredible community of women sailors remained undeterred. For three vibrant days, attendees engaged in dynamic sailing workshops, insightful seminars, and unforgettable social events. The atmosphere was electric with shanty singing, shared stories, and a deep connection forged by a mutual passion for the sea.

A Line-up of Keynote Speakers:

  • This year’s event featured renowned voices in the sailing world, including:
  • Lily Barlow (Marine Diesel Basics and Troubleshooting)
  • Mel Yeomans (Plumbing and Deck Hardware)
  • Dr Shelley Wright, Leanne Maffesoni & Susan Buckland (Whales and Citizen Science)
  • Dr Christine Materia (Cruising Tasmania’s Coasts)
  • Jillienne De Vos (Neurodiversity at Sea)
  • Viki Moore (Sailing to NZ and the South Pacific)
  • Lisa Blair (Emergency Sailing Tactics Workshop)

As long-time supporters of WWSA, Thwaites Marine proudly sponsored this year’s event by donating two BATELA Raincoats. We don't just sell marine engines and fix boats; we invest in the communities and causes we believe in.

We proudly stand behind WWSA and all efforts that empower more women to enjoy life on the water.
