The D13-MH is a variable speed generator set. It is powered by an in-line 6-cylinder, direct injected, 12.8 liter diesel engine that uses a single twin entry turbo and aftercooler. The new variable functionality results in decreased overhaul, decreased fuel consumption and lower noise levels compared to constant speed generator sets.
- Excellent monitoring with Volvo Penta Marine Commercial Control System - Twin-entry turbo with pulse charging - EMS electronic control system for optimized fuel efficiency - PTO capability - Approved by major classification societies
Key features and benefits for D13 MG RC
This direct current (DC) grid system is easy to upgrade with alternative power sources and has fewer components, weighing less – especially when compared to batteries as the sole energy carrier – making the vessel more efficient. The modular installation also creates the option of using the minimum number of engines to deliver the power needed so that the marine generator sets are able to run in the efficiency sweet spot.
The Volvo Penta Genset system is the complete solution for a ship’s onboard power requirements. It comes complete with engine, generator and monitoring system, all tested and ready for installation onboard. Engine and generators are type approved by major classification societies. The genset can be delivered with complete classification certificates.
By controlling the unit injectors and fuel distribution, the EMS electronic management system optimizes the fuel-air mixture leading to improved combustion. The result is high thermal efficiency, high fuel efficiency and reduced exhaust emissions.
The engine’s robust design with a ladder frame bolted to the engine block makes it highly reliable. Its rigid in-line cylinder block with generously dimensioned crankshaft bearings, water-cooled exhaust manifold, and turbo provide a powerful engine.
Together, the twin-entry turbo with pulse charging, and the highly efficient speed control system give this engine superior load-taking capability.
Volvo Penta Marine Commercial Control System is an engine control and monitoring system that is easily integrated into the ship’s control system. All actions are displayed with text messages and logged in a non-erasable memory.
Designed to withstand high exhaust back pressure, this genset is easy to install and perfect for installations that require additional, third-part emission control equipment. Its good accessibility also facilitates service and maintenance.

The Classic is now around the corner: March 18th-19th 2023! Thwaites Marine is once again a proud sponsor for this event! Organised by the Coffs Harbour Bluewater Freedivers Club, the Australian Bluewater Freedivers Classic minimises the pressure on the local fish community by running in a stretch of coast of 300 km, between Evans Head in the north, to South West rocks in the south. There is a list of target species that includes mostly fast-growing pelagic species that are not territorial. The limit amount of fish allowed to be weighed in is only 5. This promotes a more thoughtful diving, curbing the style of fishing competitions in Australia towards more sustainable style, that can be enjoyed long into the future.
We are very excited to announce the opening of the NEW Coffs Harbour Boatyard with 75 tonne travel lift and massive hardstand area, serviced by highly experienced and qualified staff.
